Hello wonderful TWPeeps! Can you even believe that Thanksgiving is next week?! First I have to apologize for missing my post last week. This month has been crazy! Of course I blame it all on #NaNoWriMo. But it’s been good, I’ve been getting a ton of writing done! I’m working on the second book in my Seeker Series this month. I’m way under the word count where I’m supposed to be (oops) but I’m way over the word count I was at for the whole (almost) year since I started writing this second book.
I don’t know what the deal was, I could blame it on querying my first Seeker book, and my blog and writing The Maladroit. But the truth is that I just couldn’t seem to get excited about writing it like I was with the first one. And when you have no deadlines or anyone pushing you to get it done, it can sometimes be difficult to find the motivation to get ‘er done. So I kept putting it off. And then NaNo arrived and I was uncertain as to whether I would write another book in my Seeker Series or just write the sequel to The Maladroit.
I read the couple hundred words I had for both sequels and couldn’t decide. I was frustrated that I hadn’t done more on my second Seeker book because it’d been so long but I was just stuck with the little I had written and couldn’t find my way out of the muck. And then the pressure of NaNo somewhat miraculously jarred something loose in my imagination and I ignored what I had previously written and started fresh with my second Seeker book.
I’d love to tell you that the floodgates opened and I’ve been writing nonstop ever since but sadly, that’s not true. It did however (more realistically) open a reasonable sized gate that allowed some inspiration to gush through and I’m up to nearly 25,000 words now. I’ve had a lot going on outside of writing too so it’s been slow going but at least the going is going at all, so I’ll take it!
I haven’t had any time to work on book marketing for The Maladroit and I have granted myself some leeway in that department. I’ll pick up the torch again in December and get that sucker out there soon, I promise! If I’m being honest, it’s probably a lot to do with nerves and not wanting to screw up my first book release (I’m very bad at being bad at things). Not to mention there are nights where I wake up in a cold sweat thinking that there are errors in my book that I’ve missed and I’m going to publish it and find them all then. Sigh. But one of these days I’ll work the nerve up to take the plunge and put my work out there for the world to judge. Please be gentle. 🙂
I’ve been working on a lot of guest interviews and book reviews for your reading pleasure as well so that’s been taking up a large chunk of my time. And outside of writing, some exciting news you might (or might not) like to know, I started playing bass (guitar) again at my church. I hadn’t played in years so it was a little nerve racking when I played this past Sunday but as always it was so much fun and I’m glad I did it. I love playing in church, it’s such a great experience for my creative side. To be able to create music like that is such a blessing to my soul.
Finally, this past Saturday I attended a writer’s conference. I always love going to those things. It’s just so fantastic to be around so many other writers! I always leave feeling super inspired. And I love meeting new people and making new friends and connections and those conferences are just perfect for that. I also got to hear from their keynote speaker, author Beverly Donofrio. She did a reading from a few of her books including Riding in Cars with Boys and for me, authors are my rockstars so I get a little star-struck when I see them IRL.
So that’s what’s been going on with me the past few weeks. I’m super excited that Thanksgiving is next week. I love cooking and get to go crazy with the menu for dinner that day. You can follow me on Instagram (@thewritingpiazza) if you want to see all the yummy food I’ll be making. If you’re doing NaNo this year you can add me to your buddy list, my user name is the same and my IG name. And if you’d like some help with writing your book for NaNo, you can check out The Writing Piazza’s Resources for Authors page and get a ton of great tips and advice there.
Thanks for stopping by, you all are my favorites!
Until we meet again.
