First I’ll just give you the blurb Danika sent me because it’s what made me absolutely need to read this book. Then I’ll talk about my thoughts on her manuscript.

College freshman Liv is more than just a fangirl: The Starveil movies are her life…and her last tangible connection to her deceased father. Thus, when her favorite character, Captain Matt Spartan, is killed off at the end of the last movie, Liv Just. Can’t. Deal.

Tired of sitting in her room sobbing, Liv decides to launch an online campaign to bring her beloved hero back to life. With the help of her best friend, Xander, actor and steampunk cosplayer extraordinare, she creates #SpartanSurvived, a call that ignites the fandom. But as her online life succeeds beyond her wildest dreams, Liv is forced to balance that with the pressures of school, her (mostly nonexistent and entirely traumatic) romantic life, and her disapproving mother’s new boyfriend. A trip to DragonCon with Xander might be exactly what she needs to get away from it all… and figure out what (and who!) she really wants.”

Now, my thoughts:

For every fangirl and boy who just can’t even, this book is for you. Danika Stone gets it. She speaks fandom fluently. She masterfully captures every asdfjkl; emotion and puts it on the page with all the words we wish we could have thought up in our most intense fangirling moments.

I will forever love her, not just because she wrote so expertly about belonging to a fandom, but because she catapulted the fangirl into the space typically reserved for those we idolize.

For so long we have loved from afar all the heroes and heroines that have captured our hearts and our devotion. But Stone, in her love of fandom, makes us the heroes of her story. Every gal who wrote a fanfic, every guy who created a gif or meme, everyone who has ever raged, squealed, or cried over fictional characters, we are the shining stars of her clever tale.

So be sure this book is at the top of your TBR pile and follow along with her story. For me it felt so incredibly real, I had to keep reminding myself it was just a book. It will make you forget that it’s not written about your life. And the ending is perfection, what every fan dreams of: the happily ever after.
